SCHOOL-TO-WORK/ C.I.T.E

The CITE (Community Integrated Training for Employment) vocational training programs are designed for DD-eligible students between the ages of 16 and 22 years old. Currently, we offer three training locations:

Village Center:
Offers a flexible 4-day program that provides students with an opportunity to further develop work skills with supports based on individual need. This program focuses on improving employability skills in a supportive environment.

Shepherd of the Valley:
Students are able to explore jobs in dietary, house-keeping, and maintenance. Ideally, the last step before community employment.

Opt 4 CITE:
This program is housed at the Trumbull County Technical Center, and students attend 2 days per week. The day is spent in job training sites at Kent State University Trumbull Campus performing vocational tasks in various areas under the supervision of a Fairhaven teacher. The goal of the program is to develop appropriate work skills/behaviors and to provide job exploration to prepare for further vocational programs/employment.

COMMUNITY-BASED C.I.T.E. PROGRAMS

Village Center C.I.T.E.:
Open to students throughout Trumbull County, this site focuses on two types of students: those within two years of graduating who are likely to attend a sheltered workshop but would like to experience community-based training before making their final decision, and those who are just beginning work training and hope to go on to further vocational programs/training.

The program, based at The Village Center Plaza in Niles, provides individualized instruction and supervision for those requiring a higher degree of support. A Fairhaven teacher and assistant are housed at the classroom, where students work with them in a flexible 4-day-a-week program.

Opt-4 C.I.T.E.:
Based at the Trumbull Career and Technical Center (TCTC), this program is open to students who are eligible to enroll in the TCTC Option 4 Program. A Fairhaven teacher is based in the classroom to offer on-site training to students, who attend 2 days a week and remain at their home school 3 days/week. The students participate in Job Club 3-4 times per year, focusing on employability and social/leisure skills.

SOV C.I.T.E:
In a classroom based at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Retirement Services in Niles, students who have had previous training, exhibit a degree of independence/responsibility, and are likely to achieve paid community employment are paired with co-workers who act as job coaches in departments throughout the facility. A Fairhaven teacher is housed at SOV to oversee the flexible 4-day-per-week program.
